The Tunison Foundation is the home of the D-day Squadron, a contingent of 15 C-47 aircraft that crossed the north Atlantic to England and France to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-day. The Foundation's C-47 "Placid Lassie" led the flight. In Europe, the D-day Squadron combined forces with its European C-47/DC-3 counterparts, and the aircraft dropped paratroopers over the original Normandy drop zones.
